NRP Arpão was welcomed by dozens of people in Nuuk, after 22 days on patrol in the service of NATO.
The NRP Arpão docked in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, after 22 days on patrol in the service of NATO in Operation Brilliant Shield, thus becoming the first Portuguese Navy submarine to sail so far north and practice a port in Greenland, this branch of the Armed Forces announced on social media.
According to the Portuguese Navy, this “historic achievement” was witnessed by a few dozen people in Nuuk.
During the first patrol, the NRP Arpão contributed discreetly to the surveillance and security of the alliance’s maritime areas of interest.
“Now it’s time to recharge the batteries for the next challenge, sailing under the Arctic ice,” reads the publication.
