Portuguese tourist dies in the Azores after falling 20 meters into Ribeira dos Caldeirões in S. Miguel

A 62-year-old tourist died yesterday afternoon in Nordeste, on the island of São Miguel, in the Azores, following a fall of about 20 meters in Ribeira dos Caldeirões, a police source told Lusa.

According to the same source, the accident happened yesterday at around 13:30 local time (14:30 in Lisbon) while the woman, a Portuguese national, was taking photos in the area of Ribeira dos Caldeirões, a tourist attraction in that municipality on the island of São Miguel, known for its waterfalls.

Fire crews and the Public Security Police (PSP) were on the scene.
