A 30-year-old Portuguese national, wanted in Belgium, has been located and detained in Almada by the Polícia Judiciária. The individual is subject to a European arrest warrant for significant involvement in criminal association, document forgery, and money laundering, according to an official statement.
The incidents are reported to have occurred between January 2016 and September 2025. The detainee is accused of forging identity documents and laundering funds generated from various crimes, including human trafficking, tax fraud, and social security fraud.
The statement also outlines that the organization acquired multiple companies in Belgium and Portugal, using foreign nationals as fronts. Additionally, false invoices and money distribution mechanisms were employed.
Authorities mention that the individual, who reportedly returned to Portugal from Belgium about eight months ago, could face a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
The detained person is to be brought before the Lisbon Court of Appeal for the enforcement of a coercive measure.
