Four Portuguese individuals – Mariana Mortágua, Sofia Aparício, Miguel Duarte, and Diogo Chaves – aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla heading to Gaza are expected to be deported this Sunday, as reported by SIC Notícias and CNN Portugal.
The Portuguese nationals are expected to be released today, according to CNN Portugal citing a source from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, Israel has not yet officially confirmed the release of the activists.
The Notícias ao Minuto reached out to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but no response has been received so far.
The 50 boats that comprised the humanitarian flotilla were reportedly intercepted by Israel last Wednesday, October 1.
Mariana Mortágua, the coordinator of Bloco de Esquerda, has reportedly sent a message to her mother stating she has been “without food and water for 48 hours.”
“Mom, I’m fine, but we’re not being treated well, without food or water for 48 hours. Please call for a protest,” the deputy requested, in a handwritten message delivered to her mother by the consul, who also informed that Mariana was in a cell with 12 other people.

Members of Bloco de Esquerda have disclosed the latest information provided by the consul to the family of the party leader, who was aboard the flotilla and detained by Israel in international waters.
