Post-2027 CAP proposal is “an attack on European agriculture”

The Confragi has issued a statement on its website asserting that the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) has been a crucial support for the income of farmers and ensuring a stable supply of affordable food for European citizens.

However, they claim that in recent years, the European Commission has been gradually reversing these principles, compromising the competitiveness of rural areas and European food sovereignty.

“Confragi believes that the proposal presented by the European Commission distorts the CAP, turning it into a tool dependent on the whims of each Member State, skewing the market in favor of countries with greater financial capacity,” the statement added.

The confederation argues that the proposed budget reduction for this instrument indicates that the European Commission lacks a strategic vision for the agri-food sector and has decided to abandon it.

Confragi calls on political decision-makers to “firmly defend the interests of the national and European agri-food sector” and expressed its solidarity with the continent’s farmers, noting it does not endorse the CAP review proposed by the EC.

Confragi had previously criticized the proposal presented by the EC for the CAP 2028-2034 in July, describing it as disrespectful to European farmers.
