“It is nothing out of the ordinary context,” stated a representative from the operator E-Redes, adding that “this type of work happens every Sunday.”
The same source indicated that locations where “scheduled outages” occur due to “maintenance work” are always previously communicated on the company’s website.
On Sunday, the outages will affect some areas of the municipalities of Lisbon, Oeiras, Sintra (in the district of Lisbon), Tomar (district of Santarém), Faro, Lagos, and Olhão (district of Faro), from 5:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
In a note published on its website, E-Redes explained that these are “scheduled, pre-arranged interruptions” aimed at “ensuring the quality and reliability of the electricity service.”
“Maintaining the continuity and quality of electricity supply is E-Redes’ priority. To this end, we carry out localized work on the distribution network, requiring the occasional interruption of electricity supply to customers,” the note stated.
The municipalities affected this Sunday are Lisbon, Oeiras, Sintra (in the district of Lisbon), Tomar (district of Santarém), and Faro, Lagos, and Olhão (district of Faro).
In Lisbon, the Campolide parish, including Avenida Conselheiro Fernando de Sousa and Rua Professor Sousa da Câmara, will be affected by the outage scheduled to occur between 5:00 AM and 11:00 AM.
In Oeiras, the power outage will occur in the União de Freguesias de Algés, Linda-A-Velha, and Cruz Quebrada-Dafundo from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
In the municipality of Sintra, the work will affect the União das freguesias de São João das Lampas and Terrugem between 6:00 AM and 11:00 AM, while in Tomar, the parishes of São João Batista and Santa Maria dos Olivais will be affected between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM.
In the Algarve, outages are expected in the parishes of Montenegro (Faro), Quelfes (Olhão), and São Gonçalo de Lagos (Lagos), from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
“During these interruptions, maneuvers, connection work, repair, or maintenance of network infrastructures are carried out whenever all possibilities of alternative supply from existing installations are exhausted,” indicates E-Redes in the disclosed note.
According to the operator, “these interruptions also serve to correct situations that may generate insecurity in the electrical network and/or prevent failures.”
