The President of the Republic begins a two-day official visit to Poland, which includes meetings with the country’s top figures, including his counterpart, Andrzej Duda, and with the Portuguese community.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will have lunch with Duda on Tuesday, but also with the leaders of the lower house of the Polish parliament, Elżbieta Witek, and the Senate, Tomasz Grodzki.

Today’s program begins with a meeting with students at the University of Warsaw, followed by a guided tour of the “Centenary of Portugal-Poland Diplomatic Relations” exhibition in the Polish capital.

A meeting with the Portuguese community in Poland, at the National Library in Warsaw, and the inauguration of the Portuguese language reading room complete the first day of Marcelo’s visit.

In June last year, the President of the Republic was invited by his Polish counterpart to visit the country.

“Poland has a very important role, it is geographically located in a very sensitive point and therefore, as you understand, everything that concerns Europe, particularly at this time, is important and has been dealt with,” Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said at the time.
