“We are facing an active front with very difficult land access, with a significant decline. Everything else we managed to handle overnight; it’s almost extinguished, about 95%,” stated Humberto Sarmento, commander of the Tarouca Volunteer Firefighters, to the news agency Lusa around 10:00 AM.
The commander noted that “with the reinforcement of resources, especially aerial ones, the likelihood of resolving the fire is high, the outlook is good.”
The alert for the fire in Vilarinho, in the parish of São João de Tarouca, municipality of Tarouca, in the Viseu district, was issued at 7:00 PM on Saturday, the 16th.
As of 10:00 AM, the fire was being fought by 106 operatives supported by 28 vehicles and two aerial units, according to the official website of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC).
