Pregnant woman’s baby who died in Amadora-Sintra did not survive.

The infant of a pregnant woman who passed away in the early hours of Friday, October 31, at Fernando Fonseca Hospital, commonly known as Amadora-Sintra, did not survive.

The child died on the morning of this Saturday.

The incident involves the death of a 36-year-old woman from Guinea-Bissau, residing in Portugal, who died early Friday morning while 38 weeks pregnant.

“The pregnant woman was in cardiorespiratory arrest when she arrived at the hospital. Therefore, the action taken was advanced life support and extraction of the baby as quickly as possible, and it was executed very rapidly,” explained Diogo Bruno, director of the obstetric and gynecological emergency service at Amadora-Sintra hospital.

On Wednesday, the woman had visited Amadora-Sintra “asymptomatic” for a routine check-up, during which slight hypertension was identified.

In a statement, the health unit noted that the woman was internally referred to the Obstetrics Emergency, where, after several diagnostic tests, she was discharged with an indication for hospitalization at 39 weeks of pregnancy.

Following a cesarean section, the baby was delivered alive but was in critical condition. It is now known that the child did not survive.
