Pregnant woman’s death in the SNS? “The person responsible will always be the prime minister”

José Luís Carneiro, Secretary General of the Socialist Party, addressed the ongoing chaos in the National Health Service (SNS) today, following the news of a pregnant woman’s death after being sent home from the emergency department at Prof. Dr Fernando Fonseca Hospital in Amadora.

“This tragedy is part of a series of serious failures,” Carneiro stated, emphasizing that “the primary responsibility will always lie with the prime minister.”

Carneiro refused to blame the Health Minister, asserting that “the first and last responsibility will always be the prime minister’s” because he is “responsible for forming the government” and for “failing to fulfill promises made.”

He accused Luís Montenegro of making promises that were not kept, stating that solutions for the SNS cannot be made with “random, last-minute solutions.”
