President and candidate for reelection to the board of Santa Bárbara in the Azores has died.

Tomás Vultão, a candidate for re-election as leader of Santa Bárbara Parish Council under the coalition Unidos por Ponta Delgada (PS, BE, PAN, and Livre), has passed away. The coalition expressed its “deep sorrow” over the death of the socialist local official and candidate for a renewed term.

In a statement, the coalition led by Isabel Almeida Rodrigues emphasized that Tomás Vultão “stood out for his genuine commitment to the community, dedication to public service, and his approachable and humane manner in fulfilling his duties.”

“His work for Santa Bárbara and his spirit of service in all areas he engaged in leave a lasting mark on the life of the parish and the municipality of Ponta Delgada,” it added.

As a “mark of respect for his memory and in solidarity with the community’s mourning,” the coalition suspended all campaign activities scheduled for today.

The Iniciativa Liberal (IL) candidacy for Ponta Delgada City Council, led by Alexandra Cunha, also suspended its electoral campaign today.

In a message, Alexandra Cunha expressed “deep sorrow” over Tomás Vultão’s death, noting that his life “was marked by dedication to public service, proximity to the population, and firm commitment to the development of his parish and municipality in general.”

Francisco César, president of PS/Açores, also expressed “his deepest sympathy” over Tomás Vultão’s passing and, on behalf of all Azorean socialists, conveyed “heartfelt condolences and solidarity to the family, friends, and the entire Santa Bárbara community.”

Francisco César remembered Tomás Vultão as “a dedicated local official, an exemplary citizen, and a man deeply committed to public service.”

“Tomás Vultão was a man of integrity, always available and close, who continuously put the community’s welfare above any other interest. His public life was characterized by hard work, humility, and the passion with which he served Santa Bárbara,” he noted.

The socialist leader further emphasized that “his example of dedication and public service will remain an inspiration for all who believe in politics conducted with truth and commitment to the people.”

The President of the Regional Government of the Azores (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM), José Manuel Bolieiro, lamented with “profound sadness” the death of Tomás Vultão, considering him “a devoted and exemplary local official who always guided his life by community service, maintaining close relationships with people, and commitment to the development of his parish.”

“His actions, marked by integrity, dialogue, and a sense of responsibility, left an impact on local life and in the hearts of those he served with humility and dedication,” he emphasized.

In his statement of condolence, the Azorean executive leader noted that Tomás Vultão’s contribution “extended beyond the parish, being recognized throughout the municipality and region for his dedicated defense of his homeland’s interests and his calm approach to the challenges of public life.”

Similarly, the Ponta Delgada City Council, chaired by Pedro Nascimento Cabral (PSD), expressed its “deep sorrow,” stating that during his tenure, Tomás Vultão “distinguished himself by his commitment and dedication to the parish he represented, maintaining an institutional cooperation relationship with the municipality.”

“In this moment of grief, the Ponta Delgada City Council conveys its condolences to family and friends, aligning with the mourning prompted by his premature departure,” it concluded.
