The president of the Portuguese Parliament is on an official visit to Ukraine today and Wednesday, accompanied by deputies from the PS, PSD, IL and BE benches, but not Chega or PCP.
“The President of the Assembly of the Republic, Augusto Santos Silva, accompanied by a parliamentary delegation, is making an official visit to Ukraine today and tomorrow, at the invitation of his counterpart Ruslan Stefanchuk, who chairs the Supreme Council of Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada, the country’s legislative power body,” his office reported today.
The program of the visit in Kiev “includes institutional meetings at the highest level, namely with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, with the president of the parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, and with the prime minister, Denys Shmygal.
“A meeting with students of Portuguese is also planned at the Department of Philology at Kiev University,” the note adds.
The Office of the President of the Assembly of the Republic also informs that Santos Silva will be accompanied on this visit by a parliamentary delegation composed of deputies Eurico Brilhante Dias, from the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Jorge Paulo de Oliveira, from the Social Democratic Party Parliamentary Group, João Cotrim de Figueiredo, from the Liberal Initiative Parliamentary Group, and Isabel Pires, from the Left Bloc Parliamentary Group.
Last week, the president of the National Assembly announced that he had excluded Chega, the third largest party, from delegations for visits to foreign parliaments, following the incident at the welcome session for Lula da Silva on April 25.
