President of the Republic begins today a 4-day visit to 5 islands of the Azores

President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa is set to visit the Lajes Base on Terceira Island later this morning, before traveling to Pico Island to meet with producers and economic agents at the Azores Wine Company, as part of his scheduled engagements outlined by the Regional Government.

On Friday, the second day of his visit, the President will focus on Faial Island. His itinerary includes a visit to the Okeanos Marine Research Institute at the University of the Azores, followed by an afternoon briefing on the strategic significance of the maritime cluster within the autonomous region.

The President’s activities on Saturday will begin in the village of Rabo de Peixe on São Miguel Island. He will visit the fishing port and later attend an event promoting Azorean beef at the island’s agricultural association.

On the final day of his tour, President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will be inducted as a member of the São Jorge cheese confraternity, celebrating one of the archipelago’s renowned products. The ceremony will take place in the municipality of Velas.

Since assuming the presidency in 2016, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has made multiple trips to the Azores, including official visits to various islands and participating in the 2018 Portugal Day celebrations, which began in Ponta Delgada and continued with Portuguese emigrants and descendants on the East Coast of the United States.
