“Admiral Gouveia e Melo has become the PS candidate in these elections. He is against the foreigner law, against the law that bans burqas in public spaces, and claims that hatred is taking over society. I mean, I might still see him alongside Mariana Mortágua and Rui Tavares parading down Avenida da Liberdade, that’s all that’s missing,” criticized André Ventura.
Ventura spoke to journalists before entering a conference organized by Patriots for Europe, the European political family of Chega.
“I would like to understand if I am fighting against an anti-system opponent, outside the system, or if I am fighting against a PS adversary. It is really necessary to understand this,” he stated.
Ventura also criticized Gouveia e Melo for having the support of the mayor of Viana do Castelo, the socialist Luís Nobre.
The presidential candidate challenged his opponent to clarify before the January presidential elections “who Admiral Gouveia e Melo is.”
“I think it’s important that Admiral Gouveia e Melo clarifies whether he wants to have a more controlled country and secure borders. That’s what I find important, and not pretending to be an anti-system candidate, when in reality he is the PS candidate. Indeed, everything indicates that António Costa would vote for Admiral Gouveia e Melo,” Ventura claimed.
André Ventura advocated “more immigration control and more secure borders,” while “apparently Admiral Gabriel wants to keep everything as the PS had left it.”
“It is important to clarify what my opponent’s thoughts are in these elections,” he insisted.
The presidential candidate Gouveia e Melo stated today that the regulation contemplated in the new foreigner law “was not the best” and noted that “the economy will suffer” without immigrants to perform lower-skilled jobs.
