The Entidade Reguladora para a Comunicação Social (ERC) today recommended expanding the agreement among television operators to hold presidential debates, following a complaint by Medialivre, owner of Correio da Manhã.
The decision by the ERC’s Regulatory Council comes just days before the presidential debates are set to begin and follows “the review of the complaint filed by Medialivre, S.A., which owns the CMTV and News Now program services, against RTP, SIC, and TVI.”
The regulatory body “believes that this expansion will contribute to enhancing pluralism, diversity, and citizens’ right to information during the electoral period.”
