A 20-year-old man was identified and arrested in the act by the Judiciary Police (PJ) in the city of Póvoa de Varzim, on suspicion of drug trafficking.
The arrest took place as part of an investigation that began just a few days ago, with the collaboration of the Tax and Customs Authority at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport in Porto, according to a statement released to the media this Saturday.
The statement continued: “The suspect was in possession of nearly 500 grams of a cannabis-based paste, with an extremely high THC content (the main component causing hallucinogenic effects).”
The PJ further explained that the “purity level of the substance was so high that it allowed for the production of more than 5,000 individual daily doses with that amount of drug.”
Investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals involved and to determine the specifics of the case, as the product has already been confirmed to have been produced abroad.
The detainee has already undergone the first judicial interrogation and has been placed under preventive detention.
