A man has been placed in pre-trial detention after assaulting his mother in Moura, in the Beja district, the National Republican Guard (GNR) reported this Sunday.
The arrest occurred on Wednesday, the 11th, according to a statement sent to newsrooms.
“As part of a domestic violence complaint, National Republican Guard officers conducted several investigative steps that determined the suspect threatened and physically and verbally assaulted the victim, his 64-year-old mother,” the authorities explained in the statement.
On the same day of his arrest, the man was brought before a court due to domestic violence charges, and the coercive measure of pre-trial detention was applied.
The GNR also warns that “domestic violence is a public crime and reporting it is a collective responsibility.”
