The trio of robbers appeared before a judicial interrogation at the Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DIAP) in Évora, where the criminal instruction judge today imposed the strictest coercive measure.
The robbery occurred early Thursday morning, “very close to 09:00 AM,” with the bank already in operation. It involved three masked men, one armed, who fled in a vehicle, sources from the National Republican Guard (GNR) stated at the time.
Later, in a statement, the GNR explained that the suspects, aged between 30 and 42, were detained by military personnel from the Évora Territorial Command for the crime of armed robbery.
The GNR reported receiving a robbery notification at a bank branch involving a firearm. They conducted inquiries, which determined that the suspects headed to Reguengos de Monsaraz.
“The individuals abandoned the vehicle used in the escape and fled on foot,” they added, noting that thanks to the “quick response of the police force,” the officers managed to locate, intercept, and arrest the three suspects.
The trio stole a total of 15,000 euros from the bank, which was recovered by the GNR, who also seized items used in the illicit act, such as an airsoft gun used to simulate a firearm and clothing worn during the crime.
The detainees were indicted, and the facts were referred to the Judicial Court of Évora.
The police operation was reinforced by military personnel from various divisions of the National Republican Guard.
Due to the nature of the crime, the detainees were handed over to the Judiciary Police (PJ), responsible for subsequent proceedings and investigation.
