Preventive detention for couple suspected of drug trafficking in Ponta Delgada

A man and a woman, both aged 32, were detained by officers from the Ponta Delgada Criminal Investigation Division of the Azores Public Security Police (PSP).

The arrests were part of an investigation carried out by the PSP’s Anti-Crime Brigade, guided by a public prosecutor from the Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DIAP) of Ponta Delgada. The focus was to explore multiple reports suggesting the existence of a drug trafficking operation, specifically the sale of heroin, in the Arrifes parish.

During the investigation, a search of the suspects’ residence was conducted, leading to the seizure of 85 doses of heroin, cash, and other items linked to the alleged criminal activity. Some objects were reportedly linked to several thefts from commercial establishments in the Ponta Delgada area, according to the PSP.

The individuals appeared for their initial judicial interrogation at the Ponta Delgada Court and remain in custody under the most severe coercive measure, preventive detention, awaiting further legal proceedings.

The Azores PSP Regional Command highlighted the significance of the investigation’s outcomes, emphasizing their contribution to restoring order, safety, and public tranquility in the municipality of Ponta Delgada, particularly in Arrifes parish.
