A man has been placed under preventive detention on charges of domestic violence after threatening his girlfriend in front of officers from the National Republican Guard (GNR) in Santarém.
In a statement released this Friday, the Santarém District Prosecutor’s Office reported that the man was apprehended by the GNR on March 28 following arrest warrants.
“It is indicated that the defendant and the victim entered into a dating relationship in May 2021 and began living together on February 23, 2023,” the statement noted.
The relationship was characterized by episodes of violence and verbal abuse, which escalated in August 2024.
On March 28, the defendant allegedly physically assaulted the victim and threatened her life, a statement he reiterated during contact with the GNR.
After being presented in a preliminary judicial interrogation, the man was placed under preventive detention. The investigations are ongoing.
