In a statement, the Portalegre District Command of the PSP revealed that the identity of the three suspects was already known since the day of the attempted robbery, with one of them being arrested this Monday, in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP).
Contacted by Lusa news agency, a source from the National Directorate of PSP stated that the suspect now detained is a 30-year-old Portuguese man, and that the other two, one Portuguese and one Spanish, have not yet been arrested.
According to the same source, the attempted robbery of a jewelry store located on Rua da Carreira, in the center of Elvas, occurred around 6:30 PM on July 31.
Two of the suspects allegedly entered the jewelry store, and one of them, wearing dark glasses and a surgical mask, reportedly threatened the owner with a knife while demanding gold, the police source reported.
The alleged robber dropped the knife, and the owner pushed him, causing both suspects to flee without completing the robbery.
The arrested man appeared before a judge for his first judicial interrogation on Tuesday, and was placed under preventive detention.
The investigation continues at the PSP in Elvas.
