The GNR announced that, following a court appearance in Feira, five men aged between 24 and 50, and a 26-year-old woman, have been remanded in custody.
“The five men were transported to Porto Prison, and the woman to Santa Cruz do Bispo Prison,” the statement noted.
The police further mentioned that four of the suspects are required to report weekly to the local police station, while one must report biweekly.
The other two detainees were released on bail, and the case has moved to an investigative stage.
The GNR reported dismantling a drug trafficking network and arresting 11 men aged between 25 and 50, and two women aged 26 and 45, across the districts of Aveiro and Porto.
According to the police, the arrests took place during Operation ‘Ballon’, conducted on Tuesday, involving 15 home searches, three vehicle searches, and the execution of eight arrest warrants.
“After a seven-month investigation, it was determined that the suspects operated in a network, engaging in drug trafficking in the northern region of Aveiro,” the GNR stated.
During the operation, authorities seized more than 35,000 doses of drugs (30,742 doses of heroin, 3,795 doses of cocaine, and 549.46 doses of hashish) and 283 two-kilogram nitrogen oxide bottles.
The GNR also confiscated five pistols, a revolver, a shotgun, two extendable batons, brass knuckles, 182 rounds of ammunition, six light vehicles, and €15,875 in cash.
The operation, supported by PSP, was executed in the municipalities of Santa Maria da Feira in Aveiro, and Gondomar, Penafiel, and Vila Nova de Gaia in Porto.
