The Azores Criminal Investigation Department of the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) reports that an incident occurred on the island of Pico, in São Roque, on the night of October 12. A 35-year-old suspect reportedly fired two shotgun blasts from a public road towards the windows of a house, believing that a person he had a dispute with still resided there.
Inside the house, with new tenants, an 11-year-old child was sleeping in one of the rooms hit by the shots but was not injured, which the PJ describes as being “by mere chance,” according to a statement.
The suspect was detained under warrants issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the presumed commission of a qualified homicide attempt using a firearm.
The PJ further disclosed that the weapon allegedly used was seized, along with 14 cartridges.
The detainee was brought before judicial authorities and has been remanded in custody.
