The Prosecutor’s Office stated that “the defendant, repeatedly, physically and psychologically assaulted his parents, aged 74 and 73, both with health problems, inflicting physical abuse, insults, and threats, endangering their physical integrity and personal tranquility.”
“The conduct, occurring in the context of family cohabitation, included shoving, assaults, throwing objects, and death threats, causing the victims physical injuries and significant psychological suffering, requiring medical treatment,” the same source said.
During the initial judicial interrogation, the criminal investigation judge in Leiria today imposed on the defendant the preventive detention measure, “considering there is a danger of the continued criminal activity and finding that other coercive measures would prove ineffective, given the cohabitation in the common residence and the state of unrest experienced by the victims.”
The investigation continues under the direction of the Public Ministry of the Department of Investigation and Penal Action of Leiria, the Prosecutor’s Office added.
