In a statement released on the website of the Regional Public Prosecutor’s Office of Évora, the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) reported that the incident occurred last Friday at the suspect’s residence in Vila Viçosa.
The accused, “using a knife intended for the slaughter of pigs [with a total length of 33.50 centimeters and a 20-centimeter piercing metal blade], struck a blow towards the torso of his 65-year-old brother”, the statement read.
According to the MP, “the victim was ultimately hit in one of his hands, with which he was trying to defend himself.”
During the intervention by a GNR patrol, the detainee also “offered physical resistance, even wielding that knife in a threatening manner towards two military officers” of the Guard, it highlighted.
The man is charged with attempted homicide, possession of a prohibited weapon, and resistance and coercion against an official.
According to the MP, the suspect was detained outside of the act and, after appearing before a judicial interrogation, was ordered into preventive custody.
Investigations continue under the direction of the MP of Vila Viçosa.
