“The victim, a 67-year-old woman, showed clear signs of physical assault, with multiple injuries to her face and body. She was swiftly attended to at the scene by an INEM team and subsequently transported to the Hospital de Faro, where she received medical care,” according to a PSP statement.
The report states that the detained individual was presented this afternoon to a judicial authority, where the measure of preventive custody was applied.
Police action was initiated on Tuesday following a telephone complaint reporting that cries for help and expressions of grave threats were heard from a residence in Faro, the PSP recounts.
The statement reveals that police resources were immediately dispatched to the location, where “officers confirmed the authenticity of the report, with cries and threats being audible inside the residence.”
“The suspect, the victim’s son, was arrested at the location without resistance and taken to police facilities,” says the PSP.
The public security force concluded that there are “strong indications of previous and continued violent behavior by the detainee toward his mother, indicating a situation of repeated violence.”
