The Azores Regional Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) has reported the arrest of a suspect following a series of investigative efforts by the Ponta Delgada Police Division.
The operation identified and arrested the suspect, who is accused of committing two robberies, among other property-related crimes, between May and June in the municipality of Ponta Delgada.
The PSP stated that the defendant “had already been flagged by police authorities for multiple criminal occurrences of a similar nature, having developed a continued criminal conduct.”
The suspect was “on suspended sentence for only seven months, having been convicted of the same type of crime.”
“Considering the circumstances of the incidents, their repetition in a short period, and the high risk of continued criminal activity, the defendant was arrested offsite through a warrant issued by a criminal police authority to be presented to the competent judicial authority for the initial judicial interrogation, and the most severe coercive measure was applied: pre-trial detention,” they added.
