Fires in the municipalities of Seia and Pinhel have led to recent arrests, as announced this morning by the Judicial Police.
In Seia, a 19-year-old man was detained on suspicion of starting a fire in the area. The incident involved the use of a direct flame, endangering forests and homes in the Estrela Mountain range. The young man has previously been investigated for similar offenses.
In the case of a fire that broke out on Friday in Pinhel, authorities arrested a 32-year-old woman.
The police reported that “the suspect, who has a history of conflicts with neighbors, allegedly started the fire using a lighter to intimidate them, risking the safety of the village where she resides.”
Preventive detention, the most severe coercive measure, was enacted after the detainees were brought before the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Guarda for their initial judicial interrogation.
