Preventive detention for three drug trafficking suspects in São Miguel

The Regional Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) in the Azores announced that arrests were made following a criminal inquiry initiated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Ribeira Grande. This investigation is targeting a family network engaged in trafficking hard drugs, specifically heroin and synthetic drugs, from two private residences in the São Miguel municipality.

The PSP reported that several criminal investigation measures were immediately undertaken, revealing that the three suspects operated as a network, directly selling drugs to consumers.

On Tuesday, a large-scale police operation was conducted in collaboration with a rapid response team from the Police Intervention and Inspection Squad of Ponta Delgada. This effort led to the seizure of approximately 150 doses of synthetic drugs, 10 doses of cannabis, around 1,500 euros in cash, an illegal weapon, and other crime-related items, according to the police.

The two men and a woman, aged between 31 and 53, were caught in the act and are strongly suspected of drug trafficking offenses.

The PSP further stated that they have already appeared in court for a judicial inquiry in the Ponta Delgada Tribunal and will remain in custody under the most severe form of preventive detention while the case proceeds.
