A 21-year-old man, detained on suspicion of attempting to murder a restaurant employee at Praia de Carcavelos in the municipality of Cascais, has been remanded in custody, the Lisbon West Court’s Public Prosecutor’s Office announced this Friday.
In a statement, the prosecutor’s office indicated that “the Public Ministry presented at the preliminary judicial hearing a 21-year-old defendant, indicted for the material act, in a consummated form and in effective competition, of a crime of attempted qualified homicide and a crime of possession of a prohibited weapon.”
The crimes occurred last Sunday night, June 29, “at a restaurant on Carcavelos beach, where the victim worked.”
According to the prosecutor’s office, the defendant was at the location “in the company of other people” and, “after a disagreement with the establishment’s staff,” brandished a weapon and fired at least three shots, one of which struck the victim in the back.
After being brought before a judicial inquiry on Thursday, the young man was placed under pre-trial detention.
On Thursday, the Judicial Police indicated that they had arrested a 21-year-old “on strong suspicion of the crime of attempted qualified homicide and a crime of qualified bodily harm, both using a firearm,” at the beach area in the municipality of Cascais.
The man wanted since the weekend for an attempted homicide in Carcavelos has been arrested.

According to the authorities, the “suspect fired several shots with a firearm that hit two people, a restaurant employee, aged 22, and another young man, aged 21, with references to the possibility of more victims.”
Following the crime, the young man fled the scene to an unknown location, taking the weapon with him.
On Monday, a source from the Public Security Police (PSP) confirmed the incident, adding that it occurred near the ‘Grande Onda’ restaurant at Praia de Carcavelos.

According to the same source, the incident took place around 8:30 PM. The victim was hit in the torso and transported to Cascais Hospital.
The scene was attended by the PSP, the Maritime Police, and the Carcavelos and S. Domingos de Rana Firefighters.
