A 23-year-old man was in custody on suspicion of practicing, in the district of Castelo Branco, 15 crimes of aggravated fraud in the rental of real estate and use of another’s identification document, released today the PSP.
In astatementreleased on the social networks of the Castelo Branco District Command, the PSP explains that the man, 23, born in Elvas and without a fixed residence, was arrested by agents of the Criminal Investigation Police Station, “after a complex investigation”.
According to the authorities, the man was arrested “on suspicion of committing 15 crimes of aggravated fraud (real estate rental) and use of another’s identification document, perpetrated in the district of Castelo Branco “.
“The victims were scammed using false advertisements for leases of residential properties, which were advertised on the social network Facebook, thus managing the suspect to illicitly earn thousands of euros, leaving the victims in a vulnerable situation “, reads the note.
It also adds that “in the course of the conversations, the victims were cunningly and intentionally led to believe that there was a strong demand for the lease of the property in question with a view to a quick signaling / formalization of the lease”.
According to PSP, the detainee is also suspected of the same practice of crimes in several cities in the country, in number not yet determined, so the steps and the investigation will continue.
The detainee, suspected of committing the crime of aggravated fraud, was brought to court, having been applied the measure of coercion of preventive detention, the most serious.
