Preventive measure for suspect accused of stalking ex-partner in Santiago do Cacém

The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Setúbal announced that a suspect has been indicted for domestic violence, two counts of aggravated threat, and a breach of restrictions and prohibitions. This information was shared in a statement on the prosecutor’s official website.

The accused allegedly began a pattern of persecutory and aggressive behavior towards the victim in Vila Nova de Santo André from the start of this summer, causing her significant psychological distress.

In June, the man was convicted of domestic violence against his ex-partner. The prosecutor’s office indicated that he persistently violated a restraining order, contacting the victim often and approaching her home and workplace.

In fear for her life, the victim reported these incidents to authorities, leading to the suspect’s initial court appearance in late July 2025.

He was again prohibited from approaching the victim but violated this condition, also threatening two of her subsequent partners.

The man was detained and brought before the court on the 21st of this month. The criminal trial judge imposed a preventive detention order, citing risks of flight, interference with the investigation, continued criminal activity, and severe disruption of public order.

The investigation is ongoing, led by the Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DIAP) of Santiago do Cacém, with support from the GNR’s Specific Victim Support Unit in Santiago do Cacém.
