Price of flour and sugar drops but eggs make Christmas sweets more expensive.

According to data from Deco – the Portuguese Association for Consumer Protection, sent to Lusa, the price of half a dozen eggs was 1.61 euros at the beginning of the year, but by November 19, the same box had risen to 2.12 euros, marking an increase of 31.68%.

The price of eggs has remained stable since October 22, when it reached a peak of 2.12 euros.

The lowest price was recorded at the beginning of the year (1.61 euros) and remained until the 29th of the same month.

At the beginning of February, half a dozen eggs became one cent more expensive, starting its upward price trajectory.

Between March 19 and 26, the price of half a dozen eggs rose from 1.70 euros to 2.05 euros.

However, from the start of the year until the 19th of this month, the prices of white sugar and flour for cakes have been declining.

In the case of white sugar, the price was 1.26 euros per kilogram (kg) at the beginning of this year and dropped to 1.17 euros by November 19, representing a decrease of 7.14%.

Throughout this period, prices fluctuated, reaching a high of 1.30 euros on May 21.

The lowest price was recorded on November 12 (1.15 euros).

Meanwhile, the price of flour for cakes decreased by 14.75% in the period under review, moving from 1.83 euros per kg to 1.56 euros.

The highest value (1.87 euros) was reached on February 19 and was repeated on March 19 and May 7.

Conversely, the lowest price for cake flour was 1.57 euros per kg on September 24.
