
The price of this week’s food basket has increased, with whole grains, Frankfurt sausages, and extra virgin olive oil topping the list of items with the steepest price hikes, according to DECO PROTeste’s analysis.
From July 9 to July 16, whole grains experienced the highest price increase, rising by 0.92 cents to a total of 4.51 euros, marking an increase of 26%.
Next are Frankfurt sausages, which cost 1.68 euros last week and now are priced at 1.99 euros, reflecting an 18% rise.
Extra virgin olive oil rounds out the top three foods with the most significant price increases over the eight-day period, now costing 7.77 euros after a 16% hike.
Comparing the same period in 2024 and 2025, roasted ground coffee (58%), whole grains (52%), and eggs (32%) saw the highest price escalations.
Roasted ground coffee remains the top food item when considering price increases from January 1 to July 16, followed by Gala apples (25%) and eggs (24%).
Over the past three years, the price of beef for boiling registered the most substantial increase, climbing from 5.82 euros to 11.49 euros (97%).
The food basket includes meat, frozen foods, fruits and vegetables, dairy products, groceries, and fish, featuring items like turkey, chicken, mackerel, hake, onion, potato, carrot, banana, apple, orange, rice, spaghetti, sugar, ham, milk, cheese, butter, among many others.
