
The Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, is participating today in the Council of Ministers meeting at the invitation of Luís Montenegro and is also expected to make statements.
Carlos Moedas arrived at the official residence of the Prime Minister at around 11:30 a.m., where Luís Montenegro greeted him in the garden with a hug before both proceeded to the Council of Ministers meeting.
The usual weekly Government briefing, scheduled for 3:30 p.m., has been canceled.
The Glória funicular in Lisbon derailed on Wednesday at 6:04 p.m., resulting in at least 17 deaths and 21 injuries.
Among the 17 fatalities, 15 were confirmed at the accident site, while two died in the hospitals where they had been transported.
The Government has declared a national day of mourning today, while the Lisbon City Council decided on three days of municipal mourning.
The Glória funicular connects the Restauradores with the São Pedro de Alcântara Garden in the Bairro Alto, covering a journey of approximately 265 meters, and is highly frequented by tourists.
