“When the government defers responsibilities, it suggests either the Prime Minister wants to keep the Health Minister as a scapegoat, serving as a constant target for all problems to protect himself. Secondly, it shows an avoidance of governmental accountability, which should not happen. The government must embrace these responsibilities and ensure improved performance,” stated André Ventura.
Ventura’s remarks came in response to the death of a pregnant woman at Amadora-Sintra Hospital, highlighting what he describes as a “growing disarray” in the healthcare sector.
“It seems that regardless of who dies, who is left unattended, or who lacks resources, the government refuses to accept accountability,” said the leader of Chega during a visit to a company in Montijo. “The Health Minister believes she can continue her work without ever assuming responsibility,” he added.
