Protesters vacated the pedestrian area in front of the Teatro Municipal Rivoli at 20:00, disrupting traffic and prompting police to redirect vehicles.
The square resonated with chants such as “Long live the Palestinian people’s struggle, Israel is a murderous state” and slogans like “Free Palestine.”
Amid the approximately one thousand demonstrators gathered at Praça D. João I, dozens of Palestinian flags and placards advocating for the freedom of those aboard the intercepted Global Sumud Flotilla, including Mariana Mortágua and Sofia Aparício, were visible.
After halting traffic, protesters spontaneously marched a few meters along Rua de Passos Manuel, stopping at the first traffic lights, where they continued to block vehicular movement.
