“With a budget allocation of 9.9 million euros, applications will be open until the first week of May,” stated the Ministry of Agriculture in a note sent to Lusa.
This pertains to a measure from the Rural Development Program, with an eight-million-euro allocation, intended for producers affected by losses equal to or greater than 30%.
The notice becomes active from 5:00 PM today.
Producers can receive up to 42,000 euros per farm for the cultivation of corn, apples, and chestnuts.
Eligible expenses for this support are those incurred after the occurrence of the storm and catastrophe. For Storm Kirk, these dates are October 9 and 10, 2024.
Sheep owners with a revenue decrease of less than 30% can benefit from a total aid of 1.9 million euros.
As detailed by the executive, the support is 48 euros per sheep that died between September 5, 2024, and January 16, 2025, for farms that notified the Directorate-General for Food and Veterinary (DGAV).
In this case, requests for support must be submitted by May 9 on the Institute for Financing of Agriculture and Fisheries (IFAP) portal. The notice is already open.
A credit line of five million euros has also been created, with 100% subsidized interest, to finance the purchase of sheep breeders in farms affected by the blue tongue disease. The repayment term is five years.
The individual credit limit is 120 euros per breeding sheep and 240 euros for those of native breeds.
The supports were published in the Diário da República on March 13.
“Thanks to the amendment to the regulation of the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), requested by Portugal, we can provide this additional support to the sector, including a measure dedicated to compensating for loss of income, covering damages to crops such as corn, apples, and chestnuts, losses associated with the blue tongue disease, and other significant impacts, including those covered by the 30% criteria, sourced from the State budget,” affirmed the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, José Manuel Fernandes, as quoted in the same document.
