“Following the meeting held yesterday, October 20, with the sector, and with the aim of possibly exchanging quotas with Spain to strengthen the national monkfish quota for 2025, please disregard the notice published on October 16,” states a note from the DGRM.
The notice published last Thursday indicated that Portugal had used 95% of the monkfish fishing quota, prohibiting this catch from 00:00 today.
“Considering the data on catches made by the Portuguese fleet of the monkfish (‘lophiidae’) stock in zones 8c, 9, 10, and EU waters of the CECAF zone 34.1.1, it is reported that the quota usage reached 95%,” the previously published note stated.
The landings were limited to by-catches up to 5% of the total unloaded by vessel, in each fishing tide.
Zone 8c corresponds to the Bay of Biscay – Southern, zone 9 to Portuguese waters, and zone 10 to the Azores Bank.
The DGRM is a central service of the direct state administration, with administrative autonomy, aiming for the development of maritime safety and services, the execution of fisheries policies, and the preservation of resources.
