The initiative “Uma Imagem Solidária,” established in 2017 by Lusa agency photojournalist António Cotrim, brings together photojournalists and photographers for a charitable cause. Participants donate a photograph that the public can acquire in exchange for a minimum donation of 20 euros, which is then directed to a designated association.
Gaticão – Associação dos Amigos dos Animais Abandonados, a non-profit organization, was founded over 20 years ago in October 2004 by a group of volunteers dedicated to the protection and rescue of animals.
Currently, Gaticão shelters around 200 animals, including dogs and cats, which they seek to place in responsible adoption homes.
The 8th edition of this initiative is once again supported by the President of the Republic, with sponsorship from agencies and companies such as Lusa, Fundação Portuguesa das Comunicações, Dell Technologies, Colorfoto, FinePrint, TunetRadio, Guache Condomínios, Logotexto, and Visapress.
The Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) is also participating by providing some photographs. Additionally, Purina, a brand of animal products, is sponsoring this edition.
The event will take place at the Fundação Portuguesa das Comunicações in Lisbon on May 28, with actor Isaac Alfaiate serving as the event’s patron.
Last year’s donations benefited the Casa do Artista.
