If you are a resident in Luxembourg and Switzerland and receive a pension, it is essential to complete the Proof of Life by November 30 to ensure the continuation of your pension payments, as the deadline is fast approaching.
“Remember that the deadline is November 30, 2025. If not completed by this date, the pension payment will be suspended starting January 2026 and will resume only after the valid proof of life is submitted,” stated the Instituto da Segurança Social (ISS) in a post on Instagram.
Recent data from the ISS indicates that “85% of pensioners with registered addresses in Luxembourg and Switzerland, aged 66 years and 7 months or older, have completed the Proof of Life.”

Social Security also details that Proof of Life can be completed in three ways: digital, documentary, or in person.
“Social Security recommends using the digital proof of life method as it is faster, safer, and avoids unnecessary travel,” the publication states.
“For this purpose, all you need is a device with a camera to validate identity, eliminating the need to visit service centers or send documents,” as mentioned on the public authority’s website.

Do I need to complete a Proof of Life if I reside in Portugal?
According to a FAQ leaflet on the topic, Social Security explains that “only if, in the previous year, your residence registered with Social Security was abroad.”
“In 2025, proof of life will be necessary for pensioners who had addresses in Switzerland or Luxembourg in 2024,” it states.
If a pensioner is unable to complete the proof of life in all these modes, they can do so through a legal representative. For this, and besides the previous requirements, a “document certifying the pensioner’s inability to autonomously complete the proof of life,” a “copy of the representative’s valid identification document,” and an “authenticated copy of the document granting representation powers” must be presented.
It is worth noting that, in March, the government clarified that the measure intended to “avoid the payment of pensions in the event of undeclared death,” which “cost 11 million euros in 2024.”
