A proposal by the government received votes in favor from PSD, CDS/PP, Chega, and Iniciativa Liberal, with abstentions from PCP, PS, and JPP, and opposition from Bloco de Esquerda, Livre, and PAN.
The government’s proposal to establish the National Unit for Foreigners and Borders within the PSP is slated for discussion in the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms, and Guarantees. This comes after a similar bill was rejected by PS and Chega in the previous legislature.
A Chega bill aiming to create the same unit within the PSP also passed, receiving support from PSD, CDS/PP, and Chega, while facing opposition from BE, PCP, Livre, PAN, and PS, and abstentions from IL and JPP. This bill will also be discussed in the committee specializing in these issues.
