
During the final arguments at the Vila Nova de Gaia Court in Porto district, the Public Prosecutor’s Office proposed that Patrocínio Azevedo should receive a prison sentence exceeding the midpoint of the range from eight to 12 years, specifically 10 years.
Additionally, the prosecutor advocated that the former vice-president of the city council, elected by the Socialist Party (PS), should be forbidden from holding any public office for six years.
Patrocínio Azevedo, who was in preventive detention for about 23 months, is one of the 16 defendants in Operation Babel. This case involves alleged manipulation and violation of regulations and procedures in urban planning licenses in Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto district.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office stressed, “The demands for general prevention in this type of crime are extremely high.”
Moreover, the prosecutor highlighted that during the trial, which began in January, Patrocínio Azevedo distorted facts and altered contexts without admitting to anything.
