“The reports of the structural erosion from an electoral perspective of the Socialist Party were greatly exaggerated,” stated the PS municipal coordinator, André Rijo, during a press briefing at the PS headquarters in Lisbon.
The Socialist official asserted that, “with high probability,” the PS “will likely achieve roughly the same number of votes as it did four years ago” and will also “remain the party winning the most mayoral positions in the country.”
“I would also like to say that it’s already possible for us to reach a conclusion, which is the fact that the Socialist Party, with high probability, will win more district capitals, meaning we will practically, I would say, double the district capitals we currently have and possibly add yet another district capital,” he remarked.
When asked about the district capitals expected to be won, André Rijo mentioned Faro, Coimbra, Braga, Viseu, Bragança, Évora, and Aveiro, hoping to maintain the current five.
“Finally, I must say we are fighting tooth and nail to win Lisbon and Porto,” he added.
