The parliamentary leader of the PS, Alexandra Leitão, announced today that the Socialists will abstain from voting on the motions to reject the Government Program presented by the PCP and BE.

“The PS, through its secretary-general, had already said that in this first phase it would not block the government from taking office and will therefore support the government’s program, abstaining on the motions to reject it,” Alexandra Leitão told reporters in the statement following her election as PS parliamentary leader.

Just as he was leaving the vote for the head of the PS Parliamentary Group, the Socialist Secretary General, Pedro Nuno Santos, refused to make any statements to journalists and referred Alexandra Leitão to give her initial reaction to the Program of the XXIV Government that was announced today.

The PSD/CDS-PP Government Program was approved today in the Council of Ministers, on the eve of two days of debate in parliament, on Thursday and Friday.

The Minister for the Presidency, António Leitão Amaro, said that the document is based on AD’s electoral program, but incorporates “more than 60 measures from the electoral programs of other parties with parliamentary representation”.
