PS bets for the second time on Ângelo Marques for the Peniche City Council

Ângelo Marques and other candidates announced by the district board are described as “individuals of recognized professional and political competence, valued for their dedication, work capacity, and commitment to affirming and defending a solid project for the district’s municipalities,” according to the regional structure.

The local branch describes Ângelo Marques as a “competent, dedicated, and prepared individual to preside over the Peniche Municipal Council and lead a motivating future project through open and ongoing dialogue with the community.”

The lead candidate told the Lusa agency that his candidacy stems from the project started four years ago when he was a candidate for the first time, with “premises and many of the candidates remaining the same.”

“The experience I gained in government offices working with municipal presidents and the roles I held as a councilor in the municipal council [as part of a coalition agreement with independents that ended in 2023] have better equipped me, and today I feel more prepared to be the council president,” said the candidate.

Ângelo Marques is running in the municipal elections in Peniche aiming to “achieve victory.”

His priorities include increasing the availability of affordable housing for young people and disadvantaged families to retain the population in the area, and attracting investment to enhance job offerings and increase municipal revenue.

The socialist is the first candidate to emerge in this municipality in the district of Leiria.

Angelo Marques, aged 49, born and residing in the municipality, is a project manager in a private company.

Academically, he holds a degree in Tourism Marketing from the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria and a postgraduate degree in Public Management from the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém, as well as Governance and Regional Development from the Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences.

Politically, he served as assistant to the Secretary of State for Fisheries, Teresa Coelho (2023), and worked in the office of the Deputy Secretary of State and for Internal Administration, Isabel Oneto (2017), as a manager of local security contracts in previous legislatures.

The Peniche Chamber has been presided over by the independent Henrique Bertino (Electors’ Citizens Group for Peniche) since 2017.

In the last municipal elections, the independents elected two members, the PS and PSD two others each, and the CDU one.

The municipal elections are expected to occur between September and October.
