PS “concerned” with “proposals” from the Government outside the “electoral discussion”

“There is something that concerns me, and it relates to the fact that the Government has brought forward proposals for the Government program that were not in the electoral program, nor were they discussed during the election, particularly regarding labor issues, the right to strike, for example, and also in health, concerning the revision of the Health Basic Law,” said the Socialist deputy in the Assembly of the Republic, José Luís Carneiro, today in Guarda.

José Luís Carneiro was speaking to journalists at the entrance to the session for the presentation of his candidacy for the leadership of the PS, which took place in the auditorium of the former São Miguel da Guarda Parish Council.

For the Socialist, “when we have an electoral campaign and these issues are not discussed, and now, in the Government program, these topics appear, this means hiding from the voters aspects, dimensions that, if the voters had knowledge of them, could have led to a different voting decision”.

“What I say to the Government is that trust is a very thin ice, it is a matter that requires great sensitivity, it is a very delicate issue, and therefore, I suggest that the Government has good explanations to give to Parliament regarding matters of this nature,” he warned.

José Luís Carneiro is waiting for the Government’s “explanations,” but stressed that this issue “deserves our censure without a doubt”.

In Guarda, before a well-attended room, the only candidate for secretary-general of the PS came to hear the contributions of militants, sympathizers, and society representatives.

“I was in Viseu and Bragança [on Sunday] and I have received immense contributions that allow me to perfect the strategy motion itself, particularly on how to combat inequalities, asymmetries, and, in the case of Guarda, how we can develop policies to create life opportunities in the interior that encourage greater social justice, valuing salaries, fixing the younger ones in these territories, finding opportunities for businesses to invest and create jobs,” he stated.

José Luís Carneiro declared that these sessions presenting his candidacy have been “an extraordinary moment of dialogue, with much participation” and show that, “to a certain extent, there was a need to meet with militants, sympathizers and civil society people”.

Regarding the Presidential elections and the support for António José Seguro’s candidacy, presented on Sunday, the candidate for PS leader reiterated that the party’s position will be taken at the “appropriate time”.

“At this moment, our great concern and priority are the local elections, which are the great democratic pillar of the country and the great political base of the PS”, he justified.
