“We express our deep personal and political solidarity with those affected by the incident, hoping that it is quickly clarified, and we are available to assist as needed at this moment,” stated the PS campaign direction, whose candidacy is led by the current mayor of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro.
The house of the Democratic Alliance (AD) candidate for the Custóias Parish Council in Matosinhos, Porto district, was shot at today, and the case has already been reported to the PSP, announced the AD/Matosinhos.
The AD further highlighted that several of their candidates in Matosinhos have been subject to coercion and intimidation in recent days.
In response, while firmly rejecting any form of violence, intimidation, or coercion on a personal or political level, the PS/Matosinhos campaign management lamented, however, the political exploitation that the AD seeks to establish between this incident and the electoral process.
They added that it may have no connection.
“We reiterate our full personal and political solidarity, hoping that this episode will be quickly clarified, avoiding any exploitation that does not dignify democracy,” they reinforced.
According to PS/Matosinhos, the municipality deserves a campaign based on proposals, work, and commitment to the people.
Running for the Matosinhos City Council are the current mayor, Luísa Salgueiro, for the PS, the social democrat Bruno Pereira, the CDU councilor José Pedro Rodrigues, the former socialist and independent councilor António Parada for Chega, the former parliamentary group president of the Left Bloc (BE) Pedro Filipe Soares, Filipe Garcia for IL, and Diana Sá for Livre.
The current executive comprises seven elected members from the PS, one from the PSD, one independent, one from the António Parada Sim! movement, and one from the CDU.
The local elections will take place on October 12.
