PS “got better” after the local elections and managed to break “suspicions”

Socialist sources informed Lusa that these were some of the ideas advocated by Carlos César during the National Commission meeting of the Socialist Party, held in Penafiel, Porto district, to review the results of last week’s local elections and to decide on the support proposal for António José Seguro in the presidential elections.

From the perspective of the PS president, the party did “many things right” in these elections, marking a “reinvigorating journey.”

“The PS performed better than expected, and all that can be said is that the PS improved. I don’t see why we should entertain another view,” he stated.

According to Carlos César, the PS succeeded in reaffirming itself as a national, popular, and “deeply rooted” party, dispelling “certain doubts,” with the new leadership of José Luís Carneiro contributing “to this.”

For the socialist president, retaining the presidency of ANMP and ANAFRE “was nearly impossible,” noting that the PS reversed a negative trend from the legislative elections.

César also noted “a toxicity” from some partners to the left of the PS, impacting certain results in the municipal elections, referencing the coalitions.

The socialist leader emphasized the challenges the party faces among young people and called for reflection on the issue.
