PS has a program that answers everyone. AD responds to half a dozen.

After hearing criticism from the Right regarding the PS program presented over the weekend, the party’s secretary-general, Pedro Nuno Santos, expressed a “clear conviction” that the program is “very good”.

“I heard the PSD leader say it was good to have such different programs, and I agree with him. Those who believe in taking 1,500 million euros and giving it to a minority of the population will vote for AD, while those who think this money is better invested in families and individuals will vote for PS, which has a program meeting the people’s needs. In summary, the PS has a program addressing everyone’s needs. AD has a program that only caters to a handful of Portuguese,” stated Pedro Nuno, speaking to journalists on Monday, following the submission of PS deputy lists for the legislative elections in Aveiro.

The socialist deemed the criticism from AD as “absurd” because the “budgetary cost is roughly the same” between the two parties. The difference, he noted, is that the “PSD chooses to give 1,500 million euros to those who don’t need it”.

“What we do is reduce the cost of living for everyone. The PSD faces another issue, which is failing to understand that an economy doesn’t transform through IRC. Companies broke profit records in 2023 and 2024. The families facing difficulties are those trying to pay their bills. It’s fortunate that through these programs, we can see the parties’ priorities,” remarked the PS secretary-general.

When asked whether he intends to govern even if his party isn’t the most voted, Pedro Nuno simply stated that the PS will “work to win the elections”.

“As we saw a year ago, the President of the Republic called upon the most voted party to form a Government. Therefore, it’s crucial to concentrate the votes on PS,” he added.

The early elections were announced by the President of the Republic on March 13, two days after Parliament rejected a vote of confidence in the Government, leading to the resignation of the PSD/CDS Government.
